Not a Good Day

At that time a friend of mine was also building an airplane that was powered by a Volkswagen engine. He was taking his pilot’s license at the time so I volunteered to test fly his aircraft after he finished it. CF-QCC flew very well up until one hot summers day in 1972 when flying it I thought the propeller had delaminated and the aircraft started to shake violently. After the MOT inquires it was determined to be a high speed stall. I was at low altitude when this happened and that didn’t give me enough time to rectify the situation. I tried to land in the field next to the airfield. They say that every landing that you walk away from is a good one but as you can see from these photos I didn’t walk away from that one. I was carried away on the severed wing of the aircraft to an ambulance.
